Cracked open a coconut in Central Park today. Previously, I drained the liquid from a hole I poked in one of the “eyes” — so far, so good. The next few nights were spent alternately smacking the shell with the blunt edge of a cleaver and dropping the nut on the floor. Sadly, this did nothing to liberate its sweet, delectable meat.
Finally, at lunchtime today, I walked the whole contraption to Central Park in a handy eco-friendly tote bag, which I then swung by the handles to smash its contents against a rock with all the centrifugal force I could muster. Success – and lunch!
