Accentuating the positive

September 29, 2008

Today, fasted for 24 hours. In the meantime, did:

  • Squats (reps: lost count)
  • Lunges (reps: lost count)
  • Dips (using chairs, reps: 3 sets of 8?)
  • Spider-man crawl (8 reps)
  • Mountain climbers (8 reps)
  • 2-minute plank
  • 2-minute side plank, both sides
  • Sprint intervals (6 intervals, about 20 minutes total)
  • Walking around (here, there)

Back up to 108 lbs, a weight I had hoped not to see again unless I was pregnant. Frack. Hopefully by tomorrow it will go down a bit. Tomorrow will be a rest day for the legs. Biceps, shoulders, and rows maybe, and a break from high heels.

Threw away half the chicken breast that was left for dinner, but I think what remained was about 3 oz anyway. I’m not crazy abut skinless chicken breast, so I added some butter and snuck a bit of liver mousse on the salad. Spilled soy sauce all over the place and similarly dropped and spilled most of a quart of milk which belonged to my mother. I am a thoroughly useless failure. Tried to attain inner peace by chanting a mantra in my head, but I think pychoactive drugs might be preferable. Life is so humiliating.

If it makes you happy…

Reverse lunges are surprisingly fun when done in the privacy of your own home to the strains of hindi hip-hop.

I really must stress the “privacy of your own home” part.

In which I struggle with food anxiety

September 29, 2008

Eating socially is actually easier if there is a large group of you.  When you are visiting a (skinny) friend one-on-one, and she wants to order chili, pass off two thirds of her cheesy potato skins on you, and split a bottle of wine, you are kind of on the spot.

Which isn’t to say it wasn’t my responsibility to say no.

Really the only thing calming me down at this point is the fact that I am in the middle of a 24-hour fast.  In theory, I would like to follow the Eat Stop Eat protocol, but I tend more toward an alternate day fasting schedule (M-W-F) because I’m too afraid that the extra day of eating will cause the pounds to pile on.  The downside is that maybe the alternate day fasting lends itself more to bingeing while a less stringent schedule might make it easier to “eat responsibly.”  I just don’t have the guts.

Listening to my body: apparently, it it lies

September 28, 2008

Not a big fan of “listening to my body.”  I felt thin when I first woke up, but when I weighed myself, I had gained 2 lbs. and 2% body fat in the past 3 days.

My other blog is an MTA subway. Plus: Obligatory numbers

September 28, 2008

I have another blog about my actual life and actual friends. This one is about my quest to be slimmer, with a better body composition.

I spent a year on Weight Watchers and lost about 20 lbs. Then I switched to low carb/high fat, felt better, and lost another 3. Currently, I seem to be stuck at 107-ish and plateauing, which is par for my course. I usually lose about 3-4 lbs pretty easily, but then I’ll plateau for the better part of a year. This is why I laugh when weight loss programs tell you to lose poundage slowly at 1-2 lbs a week. I’m envious of anyone who can lose weight that fast — try 1-2 lbs every 6 months!

I feel kind of bad, because 107-ish lbs. isn’t tragic. But I’m not even 4’11”. I’m supposed to be only 97 lbs.
